Vintage TAXCO Sterling Set Bracelet Earrings Pendant Brooch Grape Motif
This is a Beautiful Vintage TAXCO Three Piece Sterling Silver Grape Motif Jewelry Set, Consisting of a Bracelet, Earrings, and a Pendant / Brooch. Besides being a wonderful matched set, the Brooch has a large bale so that it can be worn as a pendant as well, providing added versatility to this wonderful set. The base of each piece is heavy sterling silver with a grape motif.
On each piece, the leaves are gold in color. I originally thought this was a mixed metals piece, but on close inspection with a loupe, I thought I could see a bit of silver color on the back side of the corners of some of the leaves, suggesting the leaves might be sterling with gold vermeil instead of brass, but I cannot tell for sure.
In any case, the gold color, whether it be sterling / gold vermeil or brass, provides a striking contrast and enhances the beauty of the piece. The set together weighs 68.6 grams (2.20 troy ounces), and the set has a nice heavy feel.The photos are closeups; the size relative to a US dime in show in one of the photos. The pieces are nicely articulated and very three dimensional. The brooch / pendant has a maximum depth of 1/2", and the earrings and bracelet links have a maximum depth of 5/16".
The bracelet is 7 1/2 long with a fairly simple hook and eye clasp. Each large link is 1 1/2" wide and 7/8" high. The pendant / brooch is about 1 5/8" x 1 5/8". It has a nice large bale, about 1/4" x 1/8" so it can accomodate a large assortment of chain sizes. The large, beautiful earrings are 1 1/4" wide by 1 3/8" tall.
The earrings are marked "925 MEXICO" (only one earring is marked and the mark is very lightly impressed and difficult to read). The pieces also have the registration marks indicating they were made some time after 1979 since they have the registration marking system mandated by the Mexican government in that year to replace the prior Eagle marking system. Each of the registration marks starts with a "T" indicating they were made in TAXCO.
The second letter and the number indicate the initial of the last name, and registration number of the specific artisan who made that piece. Since this is obviously a perfectly matched set, my assumption is that the pieces were made by the cooperative efforts of three artisans at the same taller to produce this beautiful design. We do not know specifically when the set was made. The posts on the earrings are very slightly bent / inclined to one side (as seen); this is very very minor and should have no effect on wearing the earrings.
