VINTAGE MARGOT de TAXCO Sterling ROSE Earrings # 5194 Floral Flower & Leaves. Lush and detailed, these floral earrings by famed silver maestro Margot de Taxco have a wonderful vintage patina that provides definition, contrast, depth and texture. Their size and shape conform well to the earlobe and they will frame your face beautifully.

They have screw-on findings, signed on the back of one, "Margot de Taxco" along with the design number "5194" and on the other, with the words "Made in" centered in "Sterling Mexico" in a circle. This pair must date from the earliest years of Margot's shop because her silver line began with number 5100 in 1948 and ended with 5790 when the shop closed in the 70's. Margot opened her shop after her divorce from Antonio Castillo, for whom she created many of Los Castillo's early designs and it employed over twenty silversmiths and ten enamelists.

Please note this is not a reproduction of any kind, including those using her original molds. The earrings measure just under 1" tall by about 3/4" wide. Together, they weigh 8.7 grams.

As seen in the photos, there are slight differences in the two of them, including their size, placement / appearance of the flower heads and the findings. For most, these minor differences only add to their hand made charm. And apart from that, they are in Excellent vintage condition with no dents or dings nor apologies of any other sort; nothing more than expected surface dirt, scratches and tarnish. Elegant and sporty, feminine and tailored, this versatile pair of earrings is easy to wear and goes with everything.

They can be worn to work, with jeans or a cocktail dress and always look just right. By one of the most highly regarded and collectible of the Mexican silver Masters, the earrings belong equally in collections of Mid-Century Design, Signed Mexican Silver and Jewelry.
