Due to its unusual origins, larimar is only found in a very small region of the mountain. After 30+ years of mining, the higher quality stones are now more than 500 ft. Larimar was formed when volcanic activity caused a unique mixture of minerals in a hydrothermal fluid to cool and crystalize into the gemstone.
