Large Vintage Native American Sterling Silver Feathers Dangle Post Earrings

  
Celebrating the rare & individual. Last two photos before I cleaned the earrings to share a tiny part of their journey-possibly on the way to you. Beautifully crafted vintage Native American large but quite lightweight sterling silver post back earrings featuring circle top with fine carved detailing and stunning two carved feathers drop. Approximate era for these is 1970s or earlier. No stamps but tested to guarantee sterling. Feathers represent freedom, wisdom, honour and connection to the sky. In very good vintage condition with some minimal signs of general ageing and wear-slightly misshaped posts but secure. These were very heavily tarnished when they came to me but cleaned up lovely & shiny with a silver cloth and water. Comes in retro style tin as your free gift. Each earring: 5.1 x 2.0 cm. I absolutely adore Native American sterling silver jewellery-not only is it beautifully crafted/designed and unusual, the jewellery also often has a deeper meaning behind it; a respect and celebration of life, nature, animals, deities and the human spirit. My knowledge of Native American jewellery is limited but I do research and thought Id share a little about what Ive learned thus far. Native American sterling jewellery is mostly handcrafted using incredible silversmith skills passed down from generation to generation. The pieces can range from the delicate and intricate to the heavyweight and bold and can often incorporate colourful stones (particularly but not limited to turquoise and coral) and fine decorative carved detailing.

Stamps on Native American sterling pieces vary a great deal, (particularly pre-1970s where no stamps is quite common) but they can include Sterling stamp only, Sterling & initial stamp and pictograph symbol/s etc. There are some great identifying Native American sterling stamps websites that provide some minimal information and images on the artists stamps/tribal affiliation/genuine & fake stamps etc.

But many remain unknown, I do find this disappointing simply because it would be nice to give credit to which artisan has produced such amazing piece/s. I always consider myself very lucky when I can identify an artist as it can lead to finding out more about their history & tribal affiliation. Native American sterling silver jewellery is highly collectable (particularly signed pieces, older pieces and/or old pawn pieces - originally exchanged for goods & services) and is often in the higher price bracket because of this.
