Notable Features: These Taxco Earrings were handmade by the talented silversmith Erika Hault de Corral during the Art Deco Mid-Century Modern period. They are made using tri-colored metals in the popular style of the time.

Sterling Silver sheet metal was hand-formed into a Modernist rectangular design, from which a negative space window was cut. Gorgeous blue Sodalite stones, Copper, and Brass were formed into oblong accents to add contrast and depth to these stunning earrings. Unique and classic, this pair of earrings make a statement with any outfit. This beautiful piece was made during the Art Deco Era! The Art Deco Era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Mid-Century Modernism became a movement in art and jewelry in the 1940s, right after World War II, and peaked in the 1950s. The use of multi-colored metals became very popular due to wartime restrictions on certain materials; it was not uncommon to have brass, copper or gold-alloy accents with silver backgrounds. Mid-Century Modernism is marked by clean lines and bold, abstract geometric shapes. Taxco is the location of many silver mines that have been around since the time of conquistadors. During the 1920's Taxco artisans banded together to start creating silver jewelry, since then Taxco jewelry has been considered among some of the finest craftsmanship in silver jewelry in the world.

Erika Hault de Corral, known by her signature "RIC", studied at the Paris affiliate of New York's Parsons School of Design. She worked in Taxco before moving to Puerto Vallarta and opening her own shop in 1966.

Her work is very modern, hallmarked by clean, contoured lines. Sodalite was discovered in 1811 in Greenland but was not important as an ornamental stone until a mass deposit was discovered in Ontario, Canada. Sodalite is a rich and opaque blue in stones, but in crystal form, it is usually transparent to translucent. PLEASE WAIT FOR AN UPDATED INVOICE BEFORE PAYING FOR YOUR ITEMS.
